The Pre-K Art Show is a long-term project, which takes our students to a deep exploration into the wonderful world of storytelling, igniting creativity and collaboration among our young learners.
These types of activities are aligned with the approach of our institution, in which we incorporate the Reggio Emilia framework that emphasizes child-centered learning and values the expressive potential of every learner, encouraging students to explore and express their ideas through various media, fostering creativity and critical thinking while it promotes their engagement in collaborative projects. Delving into storytelling and character creation
Working on this project, students delved into the fundamental elements of storytelling, exploring them with zeal and curiosity. From an interesting variety of settings to the vibrant characters that inhabit them, each preschool class was given an emotion to use as a general theme. Despite the intensity of the assigned emotion, our students approached them with empathy and understanding, incorporating Social-Emotional Tools to solve the problems in each story and to help the characters navigate through the feelings associated with such emotion.
Through engaging discussions and activities, they dissected the anatomy of a story, uncovering the essence of plot development, character dynamics, and the art of crafting a compelling narrative.
One of the highlights of this creative journey was the creation of character profiles. With meticulous care and boundless imagination, students crafted their unique characters using materials such as corks, wire, and other mixed media. These characters came to life, becoming the heart and soul of their imaginative tales.
Collaboration was an important aspect of this journey as students were divided into groups, each tasked with creating a story map that charted the course of their characters’ adventures. With guidance from our dedicated teachers, these budding storytellers brought their narratives to life, weaving intricate plots and captivating storylines.
Exploration of filmmaking
But the excitement didn’t stop there. Our students delved into the world of movie-making, exploring the magic of stop-motion animation. With boundless enthusiasm, they transformed their stories into captivating short films, mastering the art of movement coordination and cinematography.
From crafting the perfect setting to selecting the ideal sound effects, our students embraced every aspect of the filmmaking process with enthusiasm and creativity. And, with the guidance of their teachers, they brought their stories to life on the screen, leaving a lasting impression with their mesmerizing stop-motion masterpieces.
Purpose and impact
