Why teaching together matters: Strengthening learning at ISP

ISP | Institutional

At ISP, our mission is to inspire and challenge every learner to reach their full potential. When we talk about learners, we often think first about students, but this mission also applies to our teachers.

Great teaching does not happen in isolation. It is strengthened when educators learn from one another, plan together, and reflect collectively on how students are learning. This belief is at the heart of ISP’s new three-year professional development partnership with Arizona State University (ASU).

What collaborative teaching looks like in practice

Through this partnership, Middle and High School Math teachers, teachers in the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Diploma, and one grade level of Elementary School Homeroom teachers are working more intentionally as teams.

This includes:

  • Planning lessons together to ensure clarity and consistency
  • Aligning expectations and assessments across classes
  • Reviewing student work collaboratively to better understand learning progress
  • Sharing strategies to support different learning needs

When teachers collaborate in this way, students experience learning that feels more connected and purposeful. Expectations are clearer, transitions between classes are smoother, and support is more responsive.

Collaboration, enabled by purposeful spaces

This work is closely connected to the opening of our new VISTA building, particularly for our Math team. VISTA was intentionally designed to support collaboration, providing spaces where teachers can meet, plan, and reflect together.

The building itself reflects ISP’s innovative spirit, but its true impact lies in how it supports our commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.

Every learner grows

By investing in how teachers learn and work together, ISP strengthens the daily learning experience for students. Collaborative teaching allows us to continuously improve our practice, ensuring that learning is thoughtful, consistent, and responsive.

At ISP, teaching excellence is not a single initiative. It is a shared commitment, one that ensures every learner has the opportunity to grow.
